Color temperature is very important in filmmaking. It can affect the way the audience feels about what their watching, it can help set a scene, and overall should be something considered before shooting.

Color temperature is measured on a Kelvin scale. Higher temps are cooler and look more like natural daylight, and lower temps are warmer and look more like interior lighting, or more orange.

The human eye naturally adjusts to whatever light it’s in and adjusts to make it more “white”, but a camera doesn’t do that. So when filming, you have to be aware of if the lighting around you is warmer or cooler, as it can affect not only the look but the feel of your video.

Warmer light is great for scenes you may want to feel period, or old-fashioned, if there is a warm and tender moment, or you want the viewer to feel invited in, and welcomed. A cooler temperature feels more true-to-life, which can be perceived as cold, distant, harsh, or simply real.

Here at AMP we have skilled professionals working on all our video projects that take into consideration the color tone of your video, and what would work best with it.
