Sound in video is more than just talking. There are the voice tracks, sure, but there’s also room tone, sound effects, and music to be considered.

The first thing you want when recording is clean audio from the speaker. Even if they’re on a busy street, restuarant, or other place with lots of noise, you want to reduce as much of that as possible when filming. Clean speaker audio is key.

Now that we’ve gotton that, we can start editing. Cleaning up the spikes in the speaker audio, and reducing any noise that came through. Only after that can we add back in the room tone.

Room tone can simply be a barely noticable sound, or it can be people talking softly, whatever the coom calls for. After that, sound effects like cars honking, rain and other things can be added in to set tyhe scene and make the focus feel like they belong.

Lastly we add music. The exception tot his rule is if the video needs to be edited to the beat or lyrics. Then the music is added first, the video edited, the music muted and all other steps done, then the music added back in.

There are sound engeneers out there whose sole job is doing these steps to movies, film and other video. Here at AMP, we do all this in house to save you time and money. Make sure your video sounds as good as it looks, give us a call today.
