One is still, and one moves, right? While that’s true, Sam goes over why sometimes you can’t just pull stills from video and why having a photographer on set along with your videographer is a good idea.

To understand how difficult it is to pull still images from video, you first have to understand the differences between video and photos. With a still photography camera, the shutter opens for one second and allows one seconds worth of light on the frame. With video, it exposes 24 frames in that one second.

With 24 frames per second, you’re going to get a lot of motion blur if you try and grab stills. You can increase the frame rate, but that means you need more light for exposure. This can be done, but is usually more expensive in lighting and crew.

This is where you can decide to spend more money on a photographer in addition to a videographer, or more money in lighing, cameras and crew.
